i have read the united nations declaration of human rights many many times. eleanor roosevelt helped draft it in 1948. it seems simple enough- ppl have the right to live wo oppression of any sort. although, we say we are the land of the free home of the brave blah blah blah we are not holding true to these values-not at all! former president bushy 2 has teamed up with the ceo of nestle, buying water rights throughout south america, denying ppl access to their only water source, all the while saying that water is not a basic human right. we have the nsa cataloging ppls who are peaceful ppls but support those who are being oppressed on the us tax dollar in palestine. we have cops using unnecessary force against protestors-in the occupy movement, in the idle no more movement, against many members of earth first, and against individuals who stand up and say “you are unlawfully touching me. i don’t consent to being searched.” at every turn the basic human rights of ppls are being denied. this is unacceptable!
i am very happy to see this beautiful document in illustrated form. the main reason is to make it accessible to all ppls, the written document is a bit long and drawn out and that can intimidate some ppl. also, i think it brings home the punch of where these basic rights are being denied, even within the country who provides the most money, resources and man power to the un.
